Tips for Better Brew

Good Brewing Practices

About Temperature

To get the best experience, try brewing the same coffee with different temperature water ranging from just under boiling to 195 degrees Fahrenheit.  On our Brew Bar we use hotter water with light roasts and natural processed coffees; and cooler water with dark roasts and wet processed coffee to extract the best flavors.
Whatever brewing method you prefer, following this simple list of brewing practices will help you consistently make good coffee.
  1. Choose the brewing method that is right for you.  If you are not sure visit us a few times.  Try a French Press then try the Brew Bar.  Try the same coffee in each, then try different coffees in each.
  2. If you use filters, avoid cheap paper filters.
  3. Use good clean water, bottled spring water is fine.  Do not use distilled water.
  4. Brew at proper temperature: 195 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Use the proper amount of coffee.  Start with 2 level tablespoons for a 5-6 ounce cup and adjust to taste.
  6. Clean your coffee-making equipment.
  7. Drink it fresh or don’t drink it.  Don’t reheat, and never leave on a burner.  Travel mugs may keep your coffee hot, but not fresh.
